Hilson Moran is proud to have played a key role in the winning international design team, led by Zaha Hadid Architects, for the new Terminal 5 Arrivals building at Vilnius Airport – a major step in the long-term transformation of Lithuania’s principal aviation hub.
The competition-winning design will significantly increase the airport’s passenger capacity while improving the traveller experience and championing sustainable development principles. The striking new design of the new terminal will also support Vilnius Airport’s growing role as a multi-modal hub for the wider Baltic region.
Hilson Moran contributed inter-disciplinary expertise as part of a wider collaboration across the Tyréns Group – combining our UK-based MEP design and sustainability specialists with structural engineers and masterplanners from Tyréns Lietuva (Lithuania), Sweden, Estonia, and Poland. Together, the international team supported the concept design and competition submission, working closely with Zaha Hadid Architects throughout.
Our role focused on low-carbon energy strategies and sustainable building systems, helping to embed long-term performance, operational efficiency, passenger and employee wellbeing into the earliest stages of the concept.
The terminal design approach explored multiple geometric and structural solutions – ultimately supporting a folded-plate roof design with integrated daylighting, optimising both form and function.
“The design incorporates Tyréns’ interdisciplinary expertise as a leader in structural and MEP design engineering and sustainable building technologies. The new arrivals terminal reflects Tyréns’ commitment to delivering sustainable engineering and design services that build lasting value for future generations,” said Agnė Peikštenienė, Tyréns project lead.
This is the latest in a series of major infrastructure projects where Hilson Moran has applied integrated engineering and environmental thinking to support large-scale, complex transport led developments. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects and the wider Tyréns Group as the design and delivery of the Vilnius terminal progresses.
