Senior / Principal Water Resources Consultant

We are seeking to employ a Senior / Principal Water Resources Consultant within our Infrastructure and Environment team in our London, Manchester or Cambridge offices

The role

We are currently seeking a Senior/Principal Water Resources Consultant with proven experience dealing with the planning, design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure where water neutrality, potable water and non-potable water systems including harvested rainwater and greywater recycling is to be considered alongside managed aquifer recharge, foul sewerage design, surface water strategy, SuDS design and flood risk assessment.

These works will be required in support of UK-based and international typically large and multi-phase mixed-use regeneration and other large masterplanning projects.

Most of the Team is based in London although some are in Manchester. We also have offices in Farnborough or Cambridge and will consider candidates who would wish to be based in these offices.

Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To, The Following:

The role will sit within and across our existing environmental and environmental infrastructure consultancy working on major development projects throughout the UK and overseas related to water management, water efficiency, water re-use systems, water quality, and wider supply and demand issues. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Analyse and interpret data on water resources, usage, and quality.
  • Be familiar with the benefits and constraints of water efficiency, water re-use systems, and sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) and technologies.
  • Have an understanding of surface and foul drainage issues, risks, concept design and design development, including a working knowledge of SuDS strategies.
  • Develop and evaluate plans and strategies for water resource management, conservation and protection, such as water neutrality, nature based solutions and nutrient neutrality schemes.
  • Use micro-drainage and similar software. Likely use GIS.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to clients, stakeholders, and regulators on water-related issues and solutions, ideally with previous experience dealing with the Environment Agency and/or Natural England on water resource issues.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and input into Environmental Impact Assessments for a range of development types.
  • Prepare and present reports, proposals, and presentations on water resource;
  • Collaborate with other professionals such as engineers, planners, hydrologists, and ecologists on multidisciplinary projects (this will include our own public-health engineers).
  • Keep up to date with the latest research, trends, and regulations in the field of water resources.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables
  • Strong project management skills, with experience of managing projects from start to finish.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the potential to engage and influence at all levels.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with experience of identifying and developing business opportunities as well as the preparation of winning proposals.
  • Excellent report-writing, technical review, numerical and analytical skills, with an eye for detail and enjoy solving challenging hydrogeological / hydrological problems.

We’d like to hear from you if you have

  • Relevant work experience in consultancy or the water industry with a relevant academic background.
  • First degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrology, or water resources management
  • Masters Degree in an environmental discipline related to hydrology.
  • This role would suit an established Consultant with proven experience preferably in a consultancy environment.

Key skills

Technically competent i.e. recognized as specialist in field, but with aspirations to perform a wider role including project management. The candidate requires the ability to work independently with first class communication and
presentation skills.
