Engineering Technician

Our existing team are a market leading provider of utilities and energy infrastructure on some of the UK’s largest and most visible construction/development projects. The role may also provide ad-hoc support to our water and transport planning teams.

The role

The primary responsibility of the Engineering Technician will be to provide technical outputs (drawings, reports, sketches and specifications). Typically, the successful candidate will support our utilities engineers and consultants but will also support our water/wastewater team, and transport planning team in the development of some of our early drainage and highway engineering schemes.

On a day-to-day basis you will meet with utility and sewerage undertakers – both onsite and off-site to negotiate emerging utilities alterations (diversion of existing infrastructure) and new connection works that fulfil our client’s technical and commercial needs; prepare regular progress and quality reports including technical sketches; and ideally project manage technical aspects of these often complex projects. You must be able to check, review and update 2D (very occasionally 3D) AutoCAD drawings and output fully co-ordinated engineering drawings in conjunction with our CAD team (and wider Revit teams – you will not be expected to undertake Revit work at the current time but development of Revit skills may be possible within this role if desirable).

Our ‘Infrastructure Services’ team provides technical, commercial and procurement advice to large and often prestigious commercial, residential and mixed-use developers. We tend to support large regeneration and masterplanning projects from early infrastructure planning through to installation and commissioning of multi-utility, foul/surface water/SuDs and mobility services, and uniquely we manage the alteration of existing utility networks in very constrained (often below ground) spaces to de-risk some of the UK’s most prestigious development projects.

We provide expertise in regard water, wastewater (and SuDS), district heating/cooling, electricity, telecommunication networks and mobility-based solutions.

We want people that can sit between our Chartered Engineering Consultants and our CAD Team and don’t mind doing a bit of occasional CAD, and likely a good few site visits.

This is a great opportunity to take an Engineering Technician proficient in one discipline and demonstrate the value of inter-disciplinary working – one team with a joined-up outcome.

We’d like to hear from you if you have

The successful candidate will have experience as a [Civil] Engineering Technician. The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 18-months’ experience of working in a built-environment consultancy (civil or highways engineering team), or for a utility undertaker or utilities contractor, planning, designing, installing and/or commissioning utilities infrastructure.

The candidate will ideally have a minimum 18-months experience in Civil Engineering (drainage) at Technician level. You will also have experience working directly with Developers, House-Builders or Civil Engineering Construction Companies and have a good understanding of their needs.

You will have good 2D AutoCAD skills as well as standard MS Office programmes (particularly Word and Excel), excellent communication skills at all levels – written, verbal and face to face – and will ideally be educated to HND/HNC level, however relevant experience is more important.
