Inside the Living Lab: New Film Series Explores the Making of Hilson Moran’s Award-Winning London Office

Hilson Moran is proud to present Inside the Living Lab — a three-part film series documenting the design, development and delivery of our new London office.

Produced over the course of a year, this short documentary series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the thinking, collaboration, and innovation that went into creating our new London home, designed for the long term.

Each episode explores a different stage of the journey – from co-creation and experimentation, to transformation – highlighting the people, partnerships, design and engineering that brought the Living Lab to life.

Episode One: Co-Creation

From post-it notes to prototypes — where it all began.

Episode One goes back to the beginning. Led by architect Gensler, the co-creation process brought together Hilson Moran employees from across the business to reimagine what a workplace could be.

Through open workshops and hands-on engagement, we explored everything from agile workstyles and hybrid collaboration to sensory design and the workplace as a platform for innovation.

Hear from Gensler’s Studio Director Christopher Crawford, Interior Designer Marco Gastoldi, and Hilson Moran Director John Deasy, as they reflect on how transparency, experimentation and employee input shaped every decision.

Episode Two: Experimentation

Testing, refining and doing it differently.

In Episode Two, we focus on the impact of experimentation – a defining feature of the Living Lab philosophy. From testing different systems side-by-side to rethinking design decisions through the lens of carbon, simplicity and flexibility, this was a project shaped by continuous learning.

Mechanical lead Davor Stojnic and electrical lead Tony Mayo reveal how the team challenged conventional thinking: reducing cabling, simplifying lighting controls, and designing exposed services to highlight the value of engineering detail.

We also shine a spotlight on our suppliers who shared the vision for doing things differently, including Fagerhult UK, Lutron Electronics, EcoDuct, and Artus Air.

Episode Three: Transformation

A space for collaboration, wellbeing and the long term.

In the final episode, we look at how the vision for the Living Lab was brought to life – and how sustainability and wellbeing remained central throughout.

Managing Director Tony Morris introduces the project’s environmental goals, including targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL V2 Platinum, and shares how these frameworks supported the creation of a flexible, future-ready workplace.

Hear from Jack Richardson (our Head of Acoustics), and sustainability experts Anna Tsoumi and Emma Flower, as they discuss how local materials, experimental design and low-carbon engineering solutions helped deliver a workplace with people at its heart.
