CarbonMe Wins Digital Innovation Award at 2026 CIBSE Building Performance Awards

Hilson Moran is proud to announce that CarbonMe, a pioneering digital carbon tool developed by our engineers, has won Best Digital Innovation – Project Delivery at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards.

The award recognises the innovation and impact of CarbonMe in helping project teams measure and reduce embodied carbon in building services design from the earliest stages of a project.

Members of the Hilson Moran team attended the awards ceremony alongside organisations from across the industry committed to improving building performance and delivering measurable change. Two of our Environmental Building Engineers also attended as part of the CIBSE YEN London table, highlighting the next generation of talent shaping the future of the industry.

What is CarbonMe?

Developed by engineers from Hilson Moran in collaboration with Tyréns, CarbonMe is a web-based application that transforms how MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health) engineers estimate embodied carbon at early design stages.

Launched in May 2025, the tool enables rapid, robust estimation of MEP quantities and embodied carbon using only floor plans. This allows design teams to make informed, carbon-led decisions when they have the greatest impact on a project’s overall carbon footprint. Built on first-principle engineering calculations aligned with guidance from the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, New Rules of Measurement, and the British Council for Offices, CarbonMe provides transparent, structured outputs that support early-stage optioneering and whole-life carbon assessment.

Now embedded across Hilson Moran’s workflows, CarbonMe has already demonstrated significant time savings for early-stage analysis and generated strong industry interest from architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and sustainability consultants.

The CIBSE Judges said, “The extent of the innovation is excellent, simplifying the communication of the impact of decisions on embodied carbon across the lifecycle of a project. Everyone involved can understand the outcomes, no matter their background or expertise. This accessibility has been achieved through the use of industry standards such as RICS NRM and plain language.”

Winning Best Digital Innovation – Project Delivery highlights the growing importance of measurable, data-driven sustainability and reinforces CarbonMe’s role in helping the industry deliver lower-carbon buildings.
