World Stadium Congress 2019

Matt Kitson presents ‘Ras Abu Aboud Stadium – One Year On’

In late May over 1000 strong representation of stadium owners, clubs, organising committees and federations, architects and consultants from across the globe gathered in Amsterdam for the 10th edition of the World Stadium Congress to discuss the latest themes emerging in the industry.

Owing to our involvement in the development of two world class stadiums for the FIFA World Cup™ 2022 in Qatar, set to host the biggest names in football and the fans, we have gained significant experience along the way, which was perfectly tuned in with the Congress’ themes.

Qatar based Director Matt Kitson attended the event as a guest speaker to talk about Ras Abu Aboud Stadium and the developments that happened over a year since our involvement started. Matt shared insights into our journey so far on this uniquely designed venue, which is to be the first fully modular, reusable FIFA World Cup™ stadium. A thoughtful use of materials, including shipping containers, contributes to the highly sustainable design and is likely to inspire future developments of sports venues.

Under the title that said it all: ‘From Stadium Capacity to Value: The Next Phase in Connected, Commercial and Sustainable Stadiums’, attendees had an opportunity to make the meaningful connections with the industry peers and to explore the stadiums hot topics.

From getting ahead of the industry by pioneering fans’ and VIPs’ experience with the use of AI, analytics and SMART technologies, through to discovering new sustainable innovations, high-quality construction, and gaining insight into future advancements in design.

The most influential leaders in stadium development and tournament delivery also had an opportunity to learn about the latest in the important subject of stadium security and the rise of Esports in stadiums and clubs.
