Sian Grimsley receives Ian McCrae award 2021

We are delighted to announce that Sian Grimsley, Graduate Air Quality Consultant at Hilson Moran, has won the prestigious 2021 Ian McCrae Award, for her essay on inventive strategies to improve air quality in the construction sector.

Awarded annually by the IAQM to a young professional in the early stages of their career, the Ian McCrae Award honours Dr Ian McCrae, who made significant contributions to the understanding of emissions from transport and their links with air quality and health.

The 2021 brief tasked entrants to look ahead to COP26, where a growing number of business’s have committed to a long-term net zero target for greenhouse gas emissions. The essays needed come up with inventive air quality strategies that organisations could implement to simultaneously improve air quality and contribute to net zero goals.

Sian looked at opportunities for the building sector to work with nature – employing biomicry and sustainable, biobased building materials to remove pollutants from the air and reduce the overall carbon footprint of developments.

We warmly congratulate Sian on her achievement and innovative thinking on the topic.
