Royal Holloway Boilerhouse Café Welcomes its First Customers

Designed with Cartwright Pickard Architects, a new café on Royal Holloway University’s Egham campus has opened its doors to the campus population. The new café is nestled into a Victorian boiler house, with external lighting designed by Light Bureau used to enhance its iconic chimney.

Hilson Moran provided performance specifications for M&E services and sustainability on the project, which included a low carbon ground source heat pump, as well as BREEAM consultation.

In response to its glass facade, dynamic thermal modelling was undertaken to underpin advice on the glazing and external shading, as well as a ventilation strategy.

Hilson Moran has had great success recently in the higher education sector, working with various UK universities including the University of Surrey, London Metropolitan University and Cambridge University.
