The Downtown Metro station is part of a large, world-class public transit system currently under development in Riyadh. It features a shaded plaza, under a large, polished stainless steel canopy which allows natural light to filter to the underground concourse and public spaces.

The sustainability plans for the station include systems for clean energy, water conservation, daylight harvesting through a fibre optic system, natural shading and ventilation solutions; as well as accessing the overall scheme to ensure the scheme is also economically and socially sustainable. The use of planting and construction materials, such as limestone, will help to provide shading and sound barriers to create comfortable environments, such as a garden accessed from the Red and Blue line platforms, which allows passengers to wait for their train in the shaded lush garden.

The development also respectfully houses Eid Mosque and a Mecca in the south-west corner.
