One of the most innovative modern hotels in citizenM’s portfolio, the new-build 185 Bowery hotel is also one the tallest modular hotels constructed worldwide.

Providing approximately 300 hotel rooms over more than 15 storeys, the project adopted an innovative off-site prefabrication process, which was assembled on site in record time. Guest rooms and bathrooms were prefabricated in Gdansk, Poland, before being transported to New York via container ship. A prefabricated façade design was also developed to minimise winter heat loss whilst minimising heat gain in the summer months, ensuring guest comfort all year round.

Hilson Moran helped support the prefabrication process in Europe; designing the MEP and IT/Comms services for all the modules and riser interfaces, producing a detailed set of co-ordinated drawings and carrying out rigorous factory quality inspections, before the units were shipped. We ensured that all prefabricated MEP solutions connected seamlessly on-site during the construction process, successfully delivering the one of the largest modular hotels to be constructed in the USA in recent years.
