We are delighted that our 184 Shepherd’s Bush Road project for Westerland Real Estates Limited has had considerable success in multiple architectural awards this year. Since its completion in early 2016, the project has gone on to be shortlisted for the RICS awards in the ‘Conservation’ and ‘Building of the Year’ categories as well as the 2017 BCO Awards in the London ‘Refurbished Workplace’ category. In addition, the project has just been shortlisted for the London Regional RIBA awards.
Working alongside ColladoCollins Architects, Hilson Moran played a key role in the restoration and extension of the Grade II listed building, previously a former garage and showroom for Ford Motor Company. In helping to retain the façade and some of the internal aspects of the building, the team worked to remain true to the history of the building while addressing the needs of the client and the current occupier, dunnhumby.
Most notably, Hilson Moran, liaising with a specialist roof contractor Seele, engineered the 50,000 sq ft extension’s diagrid glass roof, a now prominent and overarching feature of the new building. We successfully addressed the possible negative effects a glass roof could have on internal conditions by providing an accurate and considered plant distribution plan and undertaking extensive modelling of air distribution.
