Hilson Moran joins Whole Life Carbon Roadmap project

The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) has today announced four new task groups and a Steering Group which will support the development of the Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap for the Built Environment.

The Roadmap, announced in December, aims to develop a trajectory of carbon reduction targets and actions, covering the total lifecycle impact of the built environment in the UK, and secure the support of relevant industry stakeholders in delivering decarbonisation. The project is a co-owned process that brings together key stakeholders from across the built environment sector.

Mirko Farnetani, Principal Sustainability Consultant at Hilson Moran, joins the New Build task group. Speaking about the appointment, Mirko said: “I am thrilled to be part of the New Build – Commercial task group, where I can share my expertise and contribute to paving the way for Net Zero.

“It is essential to establish a common roadmap for the construction industry, in order to achieve the UK government’s 2050 zero carbon goals. Whole Life Net Zero Carbon can be a clear way forward, as it is imperative to address operational and embodied carbon in parallel.”

Mirko joins a number of experts across four task groups, who will work through the decarbonisation implications across sectors and develop a timeline of solutions. An industry-wide Steering Group has also been formed to oversee the Roadmap and provide strategic input throughout the process.

UKGBC will undertake a consultation on the draft roadmap proposals in June-July 2021 to capture perspectives from across the industry.

Tom Spurrier, Roadmap Project Lead at UKGBC, said: “Delivering the carbon reductions required to bring us in line with a 1.5 degree trajectory is an industry-wide challenge that must be met with an industry-wide response. It is therefore essential we come together to develop a shared, coherent plan of action which sets out clear actions and targets for stakeholders across our industry to work towards, which is exactly the purpose of the Whole Life Carbon Roadmap project”.

UKGBC is an industry-led network with a mission to radically improve the sustainability of the built environment. A charity with over 500 member organisations spanning the entire value chain, they represent the voice of the industry’s current and future leaders who are striving for transformational change.
