A change of focus for Technical Director Nigel Clark

We’d like to announce that Nigel Clark, long-serving Technical and Main Board Director at Hilson Moran, has taken the decision to step back from his full-time role and transition into a part-time consultancy position, effective from 01 April 2021.

This consultancy role will allow Nigel to continue to support the business and particularly focus on one of his passions; to mentor others in the business, passing on his many years of experience as they take on his responsibilities across the practice.

Nigel’s career with Hilson Moran spans over 32 years – originally joining the practice in 1988 as a Senior Design Engineer. His career moved rapidly, culminating in being appointed Technical Director and joining the Main Board in 2005. He has been instrumental in carving out the practice’s excellent technical reputation, whilst at the same time driving best in class design delivery and pushing the boundaries of industry best practice in a number of external roles.

In particular, his involvement with the BCO Technical committee – and later chairman of judges for both the London and South East BCO awards and the BCO National Awards – contributed to and enhanced the reputation of Hilson Moran. He co-edited the BCO ’Tall Buildings: A Strategic Design Guide’ in 2016 as well as contributing to updates of the BCO’s ‘Guide to Specification’ in 2014 and 2019 and ‘Guide to Fit Out in 2011. In recent years, Nigel has also judged the CIBSE Building Performance Awards.

Internally he has championed the training and mentoring programme which has been accredited by CIBSE and IMechE since 2002, as well as being a key instigator and contributor to the Hilson Moran Academy programme. Nigel’s patience, dedication and knowledge has helped to inspire many careers.

Speaking about the decision, Nigel said: “I feel privileged to have worked with such a dedicated and talented group of people within Hilson Moran over so many years and I know they will develop and grow even more in the future and the business will continue to go from strength to strength.

“The next number of years probably represent some of the most exciting times in the built environment that I can recall in my career, as we strive towards zero carbon and closing the performance gap, and I look forward to the contribution that our people will make.

“The current pandemic has highlighted two things for me, the importance of looking after each other, our family and friends, and the incredible resilience we all have in our businesses, to overcome any challenges, and continue to deliver an exceptional service to our clients.

“This change of pace will also give me more time to indulge my other passions which have taken a back seat over the years namely cars, car restoration and photography – and trying to combine them whenever I get the chance.”

Nigel’s contact details will remain active, but to ensure a prompt response to any future enquiries, we encourage you to reach out to any member of our Leadership Team.

We all wish Nigel the very best in his new role, and look forward to continuing working together in the future.
