160 Old Street scoops top retrofit award

From a highly competitive shortlist, 160 Old Street claimed top spot in the ‘Workplace over 10,000m2’ category at last week’s 2021 AJ Retrofit awards.

Celebrating “the design expertise behind the vital renewal and repurposing of existing buildings,” the awards acknowledge that retrofits will play a major role in the future of UK construction. The awards cover nine categories, including healthcare, housing, higher education and listed buildings.

Hilson Moran worked with the project team to transform 160 Old Street from a 1970s building into 153,000 sq. ft. of contemporary, flexible and collaborative offices, arranged over 11 floors.

Our sustainability experience enabled the project to retain a significant amount of the original building’s embodied carbon in the transformation; and we continue to champion techniques that repurpose, refit and reactivate buildings, as we move towards a net zero future.

We want to extend our congratulations to our client, Great Portland Estates, and full project team, including OrmsExigereHeyne Tillett Steel, & Jackson Coles.
