1 Year on We Evaluate the Success of Moving into Neo

What a difference a year makes… When our Manchester team set about finding a new office space to upgrade their surroundings, from the dark and dated space at Chester Road, little did we know the full impact the move to Neo would have on the team.

Providing a space conducive to inspiring creativity and fresh thinking was top of the agenda, so designing our space to meet the criteria of the WELL Building Standards™ made logical sense. Pulling in the expertise of our in-house specialist acoustics technician and MEP teams, we used the lasted in sustainable design solutions to provide a light, clean and healthy working environment.

Working with interior designers SpaceInvader and contractors Dragonfly, the fit out space has been an absolute success, receiving the first UK WELL Certified™ Gold rating outside of London, and scooping the coveted Innovative Design award from BCO.
Where their results have really been felt, are across the team. A flexible desk policy has encouraged moving around the office more, improving collaborative working and creating a more dynamic working environment. Initiatives like gifted Fitbits from building owners Bruntwood and discounted gym memberships as part of our staff benefits package, all provided to improve a healthier lifestyle.

We also conducted a post-occupancy evaluation (POE) survey to evaluate the building’s performance in occupation using the BUS methodology, which has been developed over 30 years and is BSRIA approved. It uses a structured questionnaire designed to extract as much information as possible from the least number of questions. The results are benchmarked against a database of hundreds of UK buildings.

POE surveys were carried out before the move from Chester Road HM office and after the occupation of the new office in the Neo building. The team were asked to rate aspects of performance such as thermal comfort, indoor air quality, lighting, noise, space, design, image and needs.
