The environmental performance of a façade system on a building is one of the most influential characteristics determining overall building performance. |
The facades form the protective shell of the internal environment and the harder the shell works the less work required from mechanical systems within the building to maintain good levels of occupant comfort. This has a direct influence on the energy consumption of the building and the annual carbon emission.
A number of numerical modelling techniques are used to quantify the level of protection required. We study the solar path around the built form and at the same time examine solar signature levels on every façade quantifying the level of solar irradiation on the building surface. Various built form shapes can be tested to find the most efficient form so as to minimise solar impact. Façade performance is targeted to areas of highest solar irradiation. |
